As many of you know, I started a new savings challenge for 2015, where I bring in an extra $250/mo. by selling things I have around the house and re-selling things I get on clearance. You can read the idea of this challenge here.
Back in January, I was able to make a cool $228.59 just by selling random things around the house. I felt good coming in February, but things didn’t end on a high note.
Here is what happened in February: I sold some stuff. But I also took a week vacation. I also listed some things which have not sold. But overall, I did not list/sell nearly enough to come close to my $250 monthly goal.
How did I end up doing? I sold a total of $49.46. Yeah, that low. What did I sell?
- old iPhone on ebay
- books on Half (these were the books I sold in January but didn’t get paid for until February)
- speaker stands on Craigslist
Here is quick running total of the challenge so far:
In the end, what do I have to say? I could make excuses, but at the end of the day, it all comes down to one thing: I simply didn’t hustle enough. I put off putting things up for sale by a day, then another day. Next thing I knew, it was the 20th and I was sunk.
So going forward, I need to correct my lack of hustle – really get to the bottom of it – so I can grow from this mistake. I plan to do this by keeping a better spreadsheet of what I am selling and what I have to sell. I also have reminders set to keep me pushing forward with these goals.
I am still keeping my monthly goal at $250 and I know I am going to have to really hustle in the coming months if I want to hit my overall goal of $3,000 this year. I don’t know if I will make it, but I do know this: I am going to give it my best effort moving forward.
